Take A Captivating Journey

Like all of the Silver Sphere Novellas, “Return of the Visitor” opens with a life-threatening event. The sixth book in the series finds Amy and Jacob Casell joined by their alien and android friends, attempting to evade a swarm of supersonic fighter jets determined to blow their Starship, the Dauntless 2, out of the sky unless the crew can identify themselves adequately.

The situation is grimly ironic because Silenna, an extraterrestrial from a survivor colony called New Aneleya, is returning to Earth to fulfill a humanitarian promise she made after an interruption to save an Analeyan crew of survivors marooned in deep space. The reason for the imminent danger is a breach of communication and a Starship that looks nothing like the one Silenna arrived in five years ago.

Arcon, a superintelligent AI who lives in a silver sphere, is in charge of telepathic communication. With an incompatible radio frequency between the Starship, the jet pilots, and the base, telepathy is the only means of communication. With Arcon’s unprecedented breakdown, the crew cannot communicate their peaceful intentions, leaving their odds of survival dwindling by the minute.

“Return of the Visitor” is a fast-paced, multi-layered Sci-Fi adventure that will keep you surprised and entertained from beginning to end. Although it is the sixth novella in the series, the author has included enough background information to make it a stand-alone story, perfect for new recruits and veterans alike.

Coming Soon: “Return of the Visitor”

The Silver Sphere Series

Silenna, the Scientist/Warrior from the planet Aneleya, returns to Earth to begin her long-awaited Humanitarian work. From the start, her promise to the people of Earth gets off on the wrong foot when Air Force fighter jets come within a hair’s breadth of blowing the Dauntless 2 and its crew out of the sky. After an uneasy landing at an Air Force base in Washington, D.C., Silenna and her friends, Amy and Jacob Cassel, and Arcon, an Aneleyan superintelligent AI contained in a silver sphere, decide to focus first on saving the lives of terminally ill patients. They are joined in this effort by Lenora, a lifelike Android created by scientists on the survivor colony, New Aneleya.

Before this healing initiative even gets off the ground, the President of the United States, Trevor Aston III, wants to meet Silenna and her companions. Because the President feels the world is already teetering on a delicate balance of power, he believes the timing isn’t right to introduce a seven-foot Alien woman with an agenda into world politics. He intends to politely and diplomatically send Silenna back to where she came from.

Meeting an oppositional U.S. President in a retrofitted Sikorsky helicopter on the outskirts of a New Jersey airfield is only the first of many obstacles Silenna and her friends will have to face. Someone or something is stalking them. The perpetrator is either the smartest and most elusive assassin the world has ever known, or a deadly group of terrorists. Danger lurks at every turn, and the authorities are baffled.

“Return of the Visitor” will surprise you, entertain you, and open your heart in ways that you never imagined. Although it is the sixth volume of the Silver Sphere Series, the novella can be enjoyed as a standalone story.

Take an Unpredictable Deep Space Journey in “Return to Aneleya”

Writer and adventurer Jacob Casell,  his lovely Astronomer wife Amy, and their brilliant but moody AI friend, Arcon, are at it again. Joined by new crew members, the trio embarks on a training mission in preparation to chauffeur a group of world leaders around the solar system to impart perspective and promote peace. As is often the case, their intentions are honorable, but the results are disastrous.

While parked in orbit around the swirling clouds of Jupiter, four alien freighters appear to siphon off enough of the planet’s gaseous atmosphere to cause a gravity imbalance. The intrepid Aneleyan Starcruiser, which Amy and Jacob have named ‘the Dauntless,’ will be devoured and crushed by Jupiter’s gravity unless the crew can escape orbit.

Find out what happens next in this extraordinary adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the very end.

Although Return to Aneleya is the fifth book in the Silver Sphere Series, there is enough background included in the story to orient new readers and allow them to enjoy the novella as a stand-alone offering, and arouse enough curiosity to pick up the earlier editions.

“Return to Aneleya by David Gittlin transports readers back into the Silver Sphere universe with a thrilling space adventure that’s equal parts danger and charm. When Jacob Casell, his wife Amy, and their AI companion Arcon embark on a routine mission, things go off the rails fast. Alien freighters are harvesting Jupiter’s atmosphere, the Dauntless is nearly destroyed, and diplomacy quickly turns into a fight for survival.

Despite the stakes, this installment balances high-concept sci-fi with accessible storytelling, witty dialogue, and strong emotional beats. And while it’s technically book five, the story stands solidly on its own, introducing its stakes and characters in a way that welcomes new readers to the galaxy.

Author David Gittlin blends smart sci-fi ideas with a warm, character-focused heart. I enjoyed how much fun this book was—it didn’t just throw me into danger, it gave me a crew I wanted to root for. Arcon, the AI, brings just the right touch of humor and logic to balance the very human tensions between Jacob and Amy. The pacing is fast but not rushed, and the imaginative settings that go from deep space to the swirling chaos near Jupiter really drew me in. Even the politics were interesting without bogging the plot down.

Overall, Return to Aneleya is an exciting, thoughtful, and thoroughly entertaining space opera for anyone who loves adventure with a human (and artificial) touch. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, and I can’t wait to see what else comes out of this fascinating story universe in the future.”

John Prine: I Remember Everything

John Prine began his professional career as a mailman in Illinois. He went on to become one of America’s most beloved singers and songwriters. If you are a fan of Folk and Country Music, then you know John Prine. His music was a blend of humorous lyrics about love, life, current events, and songs recounting melancholy tales from his life. Prine was active as a composer, recording artist, live performer, and occasional actor from the early 1970s until his death in 2020 from complications of COVID-19.

“I Remember Everything” was the last song John wrote. Published posthumously, it’s a simple yet moving song looking back on a life well-lived.

Prine may have had a premonition that his life was coming to an end. If that is the case, then “I Remember Everything” is John’s epitaph, which he characteristically wrote himself. Here’s my cover.

River to the Multiverse

The Sequel to “Promise of the Visitor”

AVAILABLE NOW

Join ebullient mystery writer Jacob Cassel, his astronomer wife Amy, a highly evolved and sometimes cantankerous AI named Arcon, and Silenna, a courageous Aneleyan scientist, in an outer space adventure that will keep you turning pages and guessing what happens next.

Silenna is a visitor from a planet that has been destroyed in an intragalactic war. She has come to Earth to begin a peace initiative to avoid what happened to her home world, Aneleya. In addition, Silenna has tangible solutions to offer for our world’s most vexing problems.

At the end of her first public address to the United Nations General Assembly, Silenna receives a distress call from a crew of Aneleyan survivors stranded in the Golden River Nebula 4,077 light years away from Earth. Now, Silenna has a dilemma. Does she ignore the distress call and fulfill her promises to the people of Earth? Or does she answer the distress call from the few survivors of her race?

River to the Multiverse is the fourth novella in The Silver Sphere Series. It continues the saga from the third novella, Promise of the Visitor. You can read the previous three illustrated novellas in The Silver Sphere Trilogy, or read the novellas individually. While it helps to be familiar with the previous three novellas, it is not necessary to read them first. The author has included enough information in River to the Multiverse to orient the reader to this stand-alone story.

The Gift

Jim Brickman at the Los Angeles Gracie Awards in 2013

Jim Brickman collaborated with Tom Douglas to write “The Gift.” Jim wrote the melody and Tom wrote the lyrics. Listening to many of Jim’s love songs, I can’t help but think that the man has a heart the size of Kansas.

I found an entertaining video on YouTube describing the story behind the making of The Gift. In the video, Jim reveals a healthy sense of humor about himself, and Tom tells the story with a healthy dose of humor. Here’s an edited version of the story’s opening. For the full version, click here.

Jim: “The Gift is the first song I wrote with Tom. It just felt right from the beginning. I have a recollection of our first meeting, but it’s not very clear. I’d like Tom to give his version of the story.”

Tom: “Mine’s not gonna be very flattering.”

Jim: “That’s alright. They know me.”

Tom: “So, I get a call from my agent saying I have America’s foremost Romantic songwriter and pianist who wants you to do a song with him. Needless to say, I was more than a little intimidated. I’d just moved to Nashville with my family, and I was nervous about everything. So, I walk in to meet Jim for the first time, and he’s matter-of-fact. ‘Hi. Good to meet you.’ That sort of thing. Then he starts in with, ‘I have this song with a title, The Gift. Here’s the goal: I want it to be spiritual, but not religious, seasonal, but not Christmas, and, I want it to be a love song.’

Tom (continued): “So, I’m thinking to myself, I made a terrible mistake leaving my hometown of Dallas. I was kinda like stunned, and Jim goes, ‘Here’s the melody. I’d like the syllables of the words to match the music.’ “And I’m thinking, really? Anything else? So, he goes ahead and plays the melody and I record it. Then he says, ‘Oh. One last thing: I need it by tomorrow.’

And so on. Let’s get to the music. Here’s my version.

It’s Here!

Now Available on Amazon Worldwide

When Jacob Cassel and his telepathic AI companion discover a dead body on a lonely Florida beach, it is only the beginning of an adventure that holds the fate of our world and the destiny of other worlds in the balance.

Each book in The Silver Sphere series is “free-standing.” You can read these books in any order. The author provides enough background information in each novella to orient readers to the characters and other relevant details.

Here’s an excerpt from one of first editorial reviews to come in:

What I liked most in the novella was the flippant, often tongue-in-cheek humor that made it a light-hearted read, with witty dialogues and evocative descriptions. The characters are vividly drawn and the three-way relationship is realistically established early on. It’s not hard for the reader to suspend his disbelief and join the trio as they careen toward their ultimate goal of saving the planet. The writing is clear, literate, the vocabulary is perfectly attuned to the genre, and it is a real page-turner. I read it in one day and I am looking forward to reading Book 3 when it is available. Anyone looking for an enjoyable day curling up with a fun book will not be disappointed.”
